FORMATIONS TIPS
As you may know there isn’t a perfect FIFA 12 formation. Every formation in FIFA 12 has its strong points but also weaknesses. If you focus your formation on defending you’ll probably have difficulties with scoring and vice versa. So a good FIFA 12 formation is one that’s solid in defence but it also needs to be dangerous in attack. Below you’ll find several standard FIFA12 formations with a description how to use it. Check it out so you’ll know which formation suits your playing style best.
4-1-2-1-2 Formation
A very allround formation. If you don’t have a particular playing style (wings or center passing) then use this FIFA 12 formation. Solid defense in the centre and midfield has good connection with attackers and defenders. CDM makes sure there are no gaps between defense and midfield. This is a plus for defending, especially with the new defending system. Perfect formation for possession and short passing playing style through the center and sometimes by using the wings. Risk of this formation is when playing against fast ‘wingers’ formations like 4-4-2 which leaves gaps for the fast wingers.
4-4-2 Formation
Good attacking formation in FIFA 12. Wing play, lots of passing angles and two centre strikers. Very difficult to defend. Use this formation when you have good wingers, especially when the opposition have weak or slow full backs. Very good formation when you like to use a lot of crosses into the box. You need good and strong CM’s with high stamina so they can assist with defending and attacking. This formation is not a ‘Barcelona style’ formation with a lot of possession and short passing but for fast attacking playing style. Risk of this formation is the defense which can leave huge gaps between defense and midfield. Important is to stay in position with your defenders.
4-3-3 Formation
Good formation for possession and very difficult to defend. Works very well as you always have passing options (center and wings). The danger of this formation is that you have less connections between midfield and defense and midfield and the attackers. Because you have just one centre striker the danger is that he could be isolated. You have to be able to hold the ball with your striker so midfield and wingers can support you.
4-2-3-1 Formation
Very cool possession and attacking formation with lots of short passing, 1-2′s. Perfect formation for a ‘barca-like’ playing style. You need a strong striker and be able to hold the ball. Behind the striker you need creative and fast CAM’s. Works perfect with AC Milan (Ibrahimovic-ST, Cassano-CAM, Robinho-LAM, Pato-RAM). Also very solid in the back. Weakness is that your striker could become isolated. Not a good formation when you only use through balls.
3-5-2 Formation
Loads of passing options because you have a lot of midfielders. When attacking you can overwhelm your opponent with all the passing opportunities you have on the wings but also through the centre. It gives you the feeling your opponent has one man down. Also the defense is very strong through the center with your 3 CB’s. However, despite this is one of the coolest formation when attacking, it’s also the most vulnerable formation when defending. Against a 4-3-3 formation you have almost no chance when they use the wings.
